About Nepal

The Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal is a small and landlocked country in South Asia. It is also known as a country of Himalayas and home of snow. Nepal covers 143,351 square kilometers of land and 3,830 square kilometers of water. The total area of Nepalis 147,181 square kilometers.Nepal also contains the largest mountain range on earth, the Himalayan Mountains. This creates an elevation profile that is one of the most extreme in the world. It ranges from a mere 70 meters above sea level to the highest point on earth, Mt. Everest at 8,848 meters.  Nepal has diverse geographic with fertile plains, sub alpine forest, hills and great Himalayas.The name of the country is also identical in origin to the name of the Newar people. The terms "Nepāl", "Newār", "Newāl" and "Nepār" are phonetically different forms of the same word, and instances of the various forms appear in texts in different times in history. Kathmanduis capital of Nepaland is old 16th century city.Temples, palaces and pilgrimage sites line the Kathmandu Valley.

Nepal is multi-cultural, multi-ethnic, multi-lingual and religious diverse nation with all the religions being practiced since ancient times. In Nepal, there are 123 languages spoken as mother tongue reported in census 2011 and the official language of Nepal is Nepali, formerly called Khaskura.Based on culture alone, Nepal has tremendous cultural diversity. The feature of Nepali culture is unity in diversity (Shrestha and Gupta, 1993). Diversity in culture can be seen by a diversity of caste, religion, ethnicity, language and culture. According to the Nepal Population Census (2001), there are around 100 ethnic groups out of which 59 are the indigenous; these groups are called as Adivasi ‘Janajati’.The culture of Nepal is rich and unique in the world.Nepal is an incredibly tolerant country, a country with a huge multicultural basis.
